Day One...... Cincy

Despite the memories and storms I hit the road....

rain 10 °C

Well it was hard leaving the burgh and all the family, friends, and lifelong memories. I will truly miss my original stomping grounds but the country is big and its time to anchor my roots in another place to see if I can develop such strong ones their as well. Its been a dream to move and to finally set out and do it is both exciting and rewarding to finally be able to fulfill a goal or vision you once had but were just waiting for that break to finally take advantage of .

Departing Pittsburgh was rough and every little thing along the route was familiar which probably made it even more difficult but I finally got to Cincinnati and traveled the storms and inclement weather to meet up with my college Friend Jeff “Toast” Leichman. Jackson was taken in with excitement and got spoiled by his mom so he was at ease and thus far has been a very good travel companion. His co-pilot area is very plush however so he shouldn’t have any problems this trip.

Last night we went to one of my favorite restaurants in Cincy called the Montgomery Inn. Such good BBQ sauce and the food is always amazing. Was able to meet up with one other college Friend James Lee who has done this trip from California to Cincinnati and as everyone else has said it looks like Kansas will be my true test of the drive. I’m not looking forward to it but today I take off for Kansas City or right outside of it to visit my cousin Doug and his family. They have been in Germany for some time now so it will be very exciting to see them and catch up. Doug is a Lt. Col. In the US Army and with such a job has been all over the world so fortunately for me he once lived in Puyallup, Wa and worked in Tacoma, Wa so he will be very insightful to my new area.

Well off to the road soon but I’ll do my best to keep everyone posted along the way.

Best wishes and talk with you soon – Kansas better have good cell coverage!

4 Days to Go.... Thanks for the Party!

There is only one success - to be able to spend your life in your own way. -Christopher Morley

Time has gone by so fast and it’s hard to finally believe that I am packing and starting another chapter of life’s journey. It is however with great excitement that I now embark upon my journey out west. I have only 4 days till I leave the ‘Burgh and have a lot of preparation and work to do till that final moving day. Last night Lindsay organized a great going away party that allowed me to spend time with my boyhood friends and the “Pittsburgh Family” of guys I have grown so close with. It was fun and a bit hard looking around the room and seeing all the familiar faces, smiles, and the ever present laughter that had become my local support group while in the ‘Burgh. So many stories could be told about such great memories which only makes it evident how fortunate I have been to have such a quality group of friends. I hope these friendships continue and that everyone is able to visit the other side of the country that will become my new home.

Off to more packing and probably when I finally hit the road the fact that I am moving may finally set in but at least I have places to visit along the way to look forward to and keep me heading in the right direction.
